Day 18: Take Time To Read

Making an investment in children is one of the best investment’s you can make.  The payoff, for you as an individual, is great regardless of the size of the investment. Today, we made a small investment in a group of children at Adams Elementary.  I visited Mrs. Craig’s class this afternoon to read them a story.  Today’s book selection was one that is close to my heart.  I read them a book about a young girl, homelessness, and lessons learned through volunteerism.  The author? You may have guessed, but it is yours truly.  Today’s reading was the debut of our first book that will be published in early 2013.  I enjoyed reading the story to class, engaging them in discussion, and hearing their comments and stories in return.  I am a firm believer that love to a child is spelled T-I-M-E.  When you invest time, they know that they are important and that you care.  That was evident today.  In return for an hour of reading I received hugs, high-fives, love, appreciation, and admiration.  I am always overwhelmed at the responses of the class during my visits.  I cannot wait until I have the opportunity to see them again.

To Mrs Craig’s class…..You are awesome!  Continue to find ways to impact those around you.  You can make a difference in this world if you choose to act.  Thank you for being my friends.  Oh, and I still want to know who ate my pretzel.

It is hard to believe that we are approaching day 19.  Tomorrow we encourage you to donate blood in your community.  I will be donating platelets at the American Red Cross.  It is a simple way to give and positively impact people in our area.  Join me in giving blood or platelets tomorrow.
