Did you know heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of 1 in 3 women each year? This means women just like you – mothers, sisters, friends – are dying at the rate of one per minute because they don’t know what you know: heart disease kills.
This past week kicked off Fort Wayne’s Go Red for Women’s BetterU program. This is a 12 week program that I will be participating in. A program to a better and healthier me, and to help raise awareness of a disease that impacts both Aaron’s and my family.
When I was growing up I could eat anything and everything. I didn’t have to worry about weight gain . . . I had an extremely high metabolism. I didn’t have to watch what I ate. Ask my previous youth group leader, he would tell you how they would tease me for eating two Big Macs in one setting. I didn’t understand the importance of portion control and healthy eating at an early age. Over the years, my body and hormones have changed, yet I continued to eat like I did when I was a teenager. Which has led to continued weight gain and an unhealthy body and soul. My hopes of participating in this program will lead me to live a healthier life. This program is structured to teach me about nutrition, exercise and all other aspects around heart disease. Things I know very little about.
So I am on this 12 week journey to a better me . . . I hope you will follow along as I learn and share!
